Arrive in Ulaanbaatar
Our team will meet you up at Chinggiss Khan international airport and drive to local hotel in Ulaanbaatar city.
1st Day
Flight to Ulgii (Western Mongolia)
Your guide in Ulaanbaatar will pick you up from your hotel and will drive to airport where you will catch a plane to Ulgii. After few hours flight you will land in Ulgii. Meet up your expedition guide at the airport and start driving to Sogog village and camp next to small river.
2nd Day
Drive to the gate of Altai Tavan Bogd
Keep driving further to the west and reach the gate of Altai tavan Bogd national park. You will camp next to Kazakh nomadic families. You will keep yourself busy with visiting local nomadic families.
3rd Day
Hike to the Base camp
Higher local nomads with camels for luggage and mountain gear transportation and you will be following by hiking with towards Potaniin glacier base camp side. After arriving base camp you will have time to walk on Potaninii glacier.
4th Day
Hike up to Malchin peak (optional)
This hike is optional but strongly recommended for first visitors of Altai Tavan Bogd national park. The name of the Malchin peak means the herder. The Malchin peak shares the land of Mongolia from its south and land of Russia from its north side. The Peak towers at the elevation of 4,050m. This is the only peak that accessible for any hikers without any special skills and climbing kits.
5th Day
Hike back to white river valley
Start trekking back to the same gate of Altai Tavan Bogd national park. Have rest, relax and camp over there. Visit local tuvan nomadic families.
6th Day
Drive back to Khoton nuur area
Start driving back to Ulgii town. On your way stop to see “Dear Stones” (rocks with face of human) or Bal-Bals. Stay next to Kazakh nomadic families.
7th Day
Waterfall hike & Drive back to Ulgii town
At the morning after breakfast hike to beautiful waterfall in Baga turgen valley. After having lunch start driving back to Ulgii. Arrive in Ulgii. Have hot shower at your Hotel room. Dinner at one of local restaurant. During the dinner time you will be enjoying Kazakh traditional folk concert (live music).
8th Day
Flight to Ulaanbaatar
Fly to Ulaanbaatar. Arrive in Ulaanbaatar and meet your guide. Same day drive to Terelj national park. Visit Turtle rock and hike in Arabal temple (meditation center). Stay at local Ger camp resort.
9th Day
Ulaanbaatar city tour
Drive to Chinggiss Khan’s statue in Sonjin boldog. Visit small museum inside. Hike up to Chinggiss khan’s horse head. At the same day drive back to Ulaanbaatar. Stay at your hotel.
10th Day
Depart from Ulaanbaatar
Drive to Chinggiss Khan international airport and take flight to depart from Mongolia.
11th Day
How to get here?
There is no direct flight to Ulgii where Altai mountain located. First you must land in Ulaanbaatar city (capital of Mongolia and next day catch a plane to Ulgii. There are also buses available between Ulaanbaatar and Ulgii.
Can I do this without mountain guide?
According to Mongolian low it is not allowed to travel without local guide to Altai tavan Bogd national park as these area located too close to Chines and Russian borders.
